So what is Art Therapy?
Art therapy is a mental health profession and a form of psychotherapy that promotes self-expression, whether that be through painting, drawing, clay, collage, weaving – the creative options seem endless. It is an effective treatment for persons struggling with emotional, developmental, medical, educational, or social issues. Art therapy strives for clients to gain an increased sense of well-being and it promotes healing and introspective change.
Art therapists are trained in both art and therapy. The process isn’t an art lesson – it is about creation and finding our inner dialogue, beyond our words, found within the work. There are no wrong answers in Art therapy. No training necessary to participate. Clients – 6-100 – are free to explore their feelings, resolve emotional conflicts, establish and utilize coping skills, foster self-awareness, develop social skills, reduce anxiety and increase self-worth. Clients come from all paths of life and all can benefit from the creation and processing of their art.
Within the process, clients will establish goals for treatment alongside their therapist. Through the use of art, communication and processing, we will work together to achieve your identified goals.
